Since they were first unearthed gemstones have been revered for physical beauty. Eventually different cultures assigned various properties to stones depending on their characteristics, where they were found, or other particular factors of influence relative to the culture and their experience with minerals and gemstones. Since ancient times certain stones have been used for healing and many made their way into lore as protective stones, or otherwise some forms with visible flaws were believed to act counter, even in destructive manners.
The physical properties of some stones, such as crystal quartz varieties, have been put to practical use in watches, phones and other common devices and we know that diamonds are especially prized not only for their beauty but also for their hardness. And aside from the meaning attached to the diamond engagement ring, modern collectors may select certain gemstones for gifting loved ones on holidays or anniversaries depending on the number of years celebrated with each stone representing a different aspect of the relationship, such as wealth, hope or passion. Native Americans have long collected stones for medicine pouches to aid in protection, insight, strength or other virtues. Birthstones have been assigned to months of the year and Zodiacal stones have been assigned to astrological signs, and these associated stones have changed since the Middle Ages.
For the introduction to this healing stones collection I selected some common gemstones still in fairly organic form and associated with healing properties. Citrine is believed to bring good fortune and abundance, as well as transmuting negative energy in order to clear the way for positive energy. Amethyst is said to be connected with spirituality, aids in contentment alleviating stress, and has been used as an intuitive stone with meditation. Rose quartz has its association with matters of the heart, emanating universal love.
Each gemstone earring pair is uniquely designed by hand. The individual wearer of jewelry may have a personal association with the properties given to the gemstone and will have a beautiful way to carry those virtues with them upon wear of each one-of-a-kind piece. Bracelets and necklaces to come.
